I love dogs! Actually, I love cats, too. In fact, I love animals. Dogs are just so easy to love, but they need special attention and some dogs need more activity than we can give them. I'd like to offer a venue for people to spend time with their furry friends and meet some others people, too. Hiking with our dogs benefits all of us. We'll try to invite a trainer now and then, and make it fun! See you on the trail. Tail wags and belly rubs, Debbie Barnett

Weekend hiking with the canine companion(s) and socializing with other hikers in the community. One doesn't have to be a dog owner to be a member; just someone who likes hanging around dogs and the outdoors. Since I'm still learning the area, I will be posting dog-friendly hiking trails from www.bahiker.com, but other suggestions are welcome and encouraged. My partner and I have a senior Corgi, so most hikes will be low-key and fall within beginner-to-intermediate levels. The majority of the hi …

In December 2011, I was sitting in a three-day, 13-hours-a-day Landmark Education self-improvement seminar in San Francisco, and all I could think about was escaping through one of the hermetically sealed windows and making a dash for Nob Hill, the only thing resembling a steep incline in the area. It was during the dinner break during the final day of the seminar that I conspired with Paul Schutzman and Mai-Ling Garcia -- two of the very cool people with whom I'd made a connection during our th …

The goal of this group is to get as many people in the Contra Costa County to leave the couch, get out and hike, bike, walk the beautiful trails that we have around us; hopefully meeting once or twice a month. This group is open to everyone regardless of age and as long as it's allowed friendly dogs are absolutely welcome. We want to select trails that have an average difficulty in order to fit all levels. The group is also open to suggestions if anyone wants to hike a particular trail.

For years I was a solo backpacker who frequently ventured solo into less frequented areas. Recently I experienced a scare while doing so which made me realize how vulnerable a solo hiker off trail is. I concluded that for safety and companionship where any portion of the route is off established trails, I would prefer to hike with other independent-style backpackers. Those meetups of our group where I am part of the group will provide the partners I seek. My idea of a small group is myself, my d …
